How Much Is Your Time Worth?

What is the one thing that everyone wants more of? Time, of course! I always ask my Clients, how much is your time truly worth?

We think NOW is the perfect time to contemplate this. A lot of people are already thinking about all the things they need to have ready before school starts, and July is a popular time for people to go on vacation. The very last thing you want is to wonder, “Maybe I should skip my vacation to do x, y, z…?” Oh hell, no. You need that vacation!

We have some suggestions about how to save your precious time in your home as well as for your mental health.

1. Kitchen - Meals, ugh amirite!

A simple trick to keep you on schedule is to have an old fashioned analog clock in the kitchen. An analog clock makes you more time-aware. The simple visual of a sweep of the hand shows you, literally, how much time has elapsed and how much time you have left - to finish breakfast, get your day planned and get (everyone!) out the door.

Weekly or bi-weekly meal planning helps keep your fridge organized. Buying food for specific meals helps you know exactly what’s in the fridge, when you’re going to use it and when you need to go shopping.

2. Bedroom - Undies & Drawers & Closets, oh my!

Let’s face it, you probably have to rifle through your drawers every morning looking for what you want and wasting valuable time doing it. Don’t stress! Arrange your drawers by category, color and the holy grail: drawer dividers. The morning rush will be much faster when this drawer feels like a boutique!

Invest in your sanity by purchasing a new closet system - and have OFab design it for you!  Most closets have one long hanging rod that has one shelf above it. So you end up storing shoes underneath the clothes and only a few things that will fit on the shelf above. By having us take a look at perhaps having double row rods (shirts on top, pants on the bottom), this allows for about a 3/4 length rod so you can hang your longer clothes, leaving more room for the rest of the space. Shelves can be used for a multitude of storage challenges. You can add clear bins to create mobile drawers for easy access. You can fold all of your sweaters, shorts and jeans and keep them on shelves. Also, of course, they are great storage solutions for shoes, hats and accessories.

3. Communication station - “Where is my…? Oh, there it is.”

Keep your technology and communications devices organized and centrally located. Juggling, finding and using all of our tech devices, very much including cords and adapters, can be a constant challenge. Trust us, we know about it!

We have a couple of suggestions to save time when it comes to the internet of things.

Ceate a communication station at entry points to your home. to get you out the door. OFab has a simple roadmap for setting up the perfect station for you!

Apple AirTag is a locator for all the things! It is essentially a ring that you can put in your luggage or briefcase or purse - wherever you keep those things you (always!) lose. Simply using your phone, Siri can find your gadgets for you.

Lastly, how about some time for your mental well-being?

Some people benefit greatly from meditation and it is an activity that you must set aside time for. We personally recommend the Calm app. This can save your sanity. They have 5 minute sessions that can help you prepare for the day, or help you decompress from it, and you can schedule your session for any time you want.
